a monodrama
At the beginning lies a letter from a doctor calling a mother to her dying son’s bed. At the end there is a letter which even the greatest Czech female writer of the 19th century was no longer able to finish. This performance, which is based on František Pavlíček’s monodrama which was written in the seventies for Vlasta Chramostová, is trying to capture Božena Němcová’s personal Calvary amidst the hardships of her time, her love life as well as a failed marriage as a very contemporary story which can be surprisingly exciting even for those who were scared off Němcová for life due to the fact that she was the author of the dreaded compulsory reading they met in their youth. A burial as well as a resurrection, with songs.
