An operetta
The famous melodies So infinitely beautiful, The blue rose will tell you, Little red roses, Saigon, Only without a woman, I’ll sing you a magically beautiful song, Dance with me, dove, Perhaps it is a habit, I remember, When the accordion is playing quietly... are today considered to be golden treasures of Slovak musical theatre. Gejza Dusík’s immortal hits can be heard from the lips of the great artists of the Andrej Bagar Theatre in the famous operetta The Blue Rose. The theatre invites its audience to experience the catchy melodies, the lightness of the plot, the witty story and the comic characters involved. They should also come for the actors’ playfulness, the imaginativeness of the production, the grace of the dancing…
The story of what is probably the best known Slovak operetta lacks neither for deep love nor for intrigues, a dramatic storyline and obviously also a happy end. The pursuit of the international invention of a destructive powder called NHNH conveys the audience onto a cruise ship called Denisa. We become witnesses of witty moments when the bizarre heroes of our story bump into one another, hiding their feelings in a morning sea mist of operetta exaggeration, style and charm, as well as in the irony of always-entertaining comical situations. The ageless songs of the masterly Dusík can be heard in their full beauty in the new arrangement – like sweet rocking on the sea waves of the nostalgic past… Or rather as a cruise through a theatrical fantasy of real Fellini or Bednárik-esque dimensions.
