A comedy horror musical
A famous detective, Nick Carter from New York, is invited by commissioner Ledvina to Prague to help solve a mysterious crime – the disappearance of Duchess Thunová’s dog, a case the local police cannot solve. Even though he is equipped with the mind of a genius, as well as the latest breakthrough inventions, he realizes on the spot – mainly in the picturesque pubs – that everything is different from America in the lands of the Czechs. While investigating, he discovers clues which lead to the criminal Count von Kratzmar, who is preparing devilish plots which need to be stopped, among other reasons because of the lovely Květuška with whom the detective has fallen in love. It isn’t so important whether good or evil will win in this parody on cheap detective story books which was written by the script writer Jiří Brdečka and the director Oldřich Lipský. What is important is the fact that an original musical project has been created at the Theatre of Slovácko based on this phenomenal comedy from the year 1977 which is still part of the golden fund of Czech cinematography today. The director and choreographer Radek Balaš invited the musical composer Ondřej Brousek to cooperate on the project, and together they created a comedy which respects both the film original as well as the theatre environment.
