WINGS 2014/2015 THEME: THE SEARCH FOR THE MRŠTÍK BROTHERS’ LEGACY
Ondřej Doubrava 31. December 2016 zdroj www.musical.cz(…) The evening started with a good video parody of the cult of the 90s, a TV programme which all of us probably wanted to be a part of, at least a little bit – Fort Boyard. It was an unforgettable experience to see Michal Isteník in the role of the “key-keeper” running around the set pieces for the Music Theatre’s production of King Lear (and imagine, this was only the first two minutes of the evening!). Otherwise, however, the evening (which was under the direction of Petr Štěpán and Alan Novotný) took place in the style of a “scientific seminar” given by the gentlemen Petr Štěpán, Jaroslav Matějka, Alan Novotný, Viktor Skála, Jan Šotkovský and Vojtěch Blahuta, who discovered a completely unknown text and short musical score during the recent construction of Brno City Theatre’s new warehouse. It immediately became clear that the find was an unfinished drama-musical by the Mrštík Brothers. There are still disputes about exactly what genre it is, actually. Despite this, the researchers decided to reconstruct the work and we could see the result during the announcement ceremony. (..) The Dokořán committee prize was awarded to Michal Isteník (who also received his own ribbon); his colleague, the actor Viktor Skála, honoured him immediately with the tones of Sinatra´s “My Way”, which were also part of the introduction to the Moravian drama-musical. This was true of the following song, too, which was about alcohol – an item which seems to be essential for Moravia – Andrea Zelová, alias Satana from Johnny Blue, sang about her liver instead of the original lyrics to the song Tyjátr. (...) The statistics window was presented very cleverly this time with the aid of the energetic musical number (of course, with a slightly altered text) from GHOST “I´m Outta Here” delivered by Markéta Sedláčková as Oda Mae and featuring a rap by Vojtěch Blahuta (...) A scene in the second half which could be called West Side Story: New generation was particularly popular with the audience: Petr Gazdík’s children (as their father was simply the greatest Jet...), Alena Antalová, Rastislav Gajdoš and Alan Novotný had a go at the famous scene from the tailor´s saloon with the song “One Hand, One Heart“. It was nostalgic even for those who don’t remember the production from before, as well as extremely natural and cute. (...)
BRNO CITY THEATRE OPENED UP ITS WINGS
28. December 2016 zdroj PrávoAndrea Zelová (maiden name Březinová) and Jiří Mach were voted the most popular ensemble members by the spectators of Brno City Theatre in the Wings survey (now in its 19th year) for the 2014/2015 season. 12 500 spectators sent in their votes over the whole year, which was a higher number of responses than for any other previous year. The traditional pre-Christmas celebratory evening full of fun and hyperbole was prepared by Petr Štěpán together with Alan Novotný. (...) The humorous theme of the whole evening was Alois and Vilém Mrštík´s legacy, which was apparently discovered when the foundation stone of the new building currently growing next to the theatre building complex was laid. Zelová successfully defended her victory from last year, while Mach won the survey for the first time. Other positions in the Best Actress category were taken by Hana Holišová, Jana Musilová, Svetlana Janotová and Markéta Sedláčková, while the actors receiving awards included Aleš Slanina, Michal Isteník, Dušan Vitázek and Lukáš Vlček. The production GHOST, which was directed by the head of the theatre, Stanislav Moša, received the most votes. The spectators gave Christoph Weyers’ scenography for that play first place in the category Most Distinctive Creative Feat.
