Jazz-opera
The Threepenny Opera, premiering on 31st August 1928 in the Berlin theatre Theater am Schiffbauerdamm, became the greatest theatre success of the 1920s. It was adapted by B. Brecht from an opera parody „The Beggar’s opera“, composed in 1728 by John Gay. This work owes it’s overwhelming success both with spectators and reviewers to the irresistible songs by Kurt Weill and the well-depicted environment of cheaters – a shocking image of the bourgeois behaviour. Weill’s music carries elements of jazz, pop-music, but also church and opera melodies. The famous jazz-opera by Brecht and Weill promises thus an unforgettable experience. rn
