A GRAND CELEBRATORY CONCERT FOR THE 70TH BIRTHDAY OF THE JANÁČEK ACADEMY OF MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS
Vratislav Mlčoch 5. June 2017 zdroj www.babocka.vram.czTen 4th year students taking musical acting at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno opened a grandiose concert entitled Vivat Academia! at Brno City Theatre’s Music Theatre stage, showing off the full extent of their skills right from the very beginning. The movie hits from their performance Kinovály, accompanied by Brno City Theatre’s 30-member orchestra under Dan Kalousek, managed to get the virtually full auditorium properly pumped up. In particular, the Bond number GoldenEye and the song from the film Once upon a Time in the West really had the audience going wild. (…) After the break, the emotions started flowing even faster, as former musical acting graduates from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts took the stage. These exceptional artists, who are engaged not only in Brno but all around the Czech Republic and Slovakia, each gave an amazing performance - truly AMAZING. The avalanche was triggered by Brno City Theatre’s Petr Gazdík and it rolled unstoppably from the stage into the auditorium, overwhelming the eyes and the ears of the spectators. And these were not only solo performances; at the end, all the performers got up on stage together and sang a number from the musical Hair as if their very lives depended on it. (…) Musicals are trendy, so let´s have more of them!
THE JANÁČEK ACADEMY CELEBRATES ITS 70TH ANNIVERSARY
(tr) 1. June 2017 zdroj www.brnozurnal.czThe celebrations have been going on all through the year, with one of the greatest events being a concert given by students and musical studio graduates on 31st May. It took place at Brno City Theatre’s Music Theatre. (…)
The first half of the celebratory concert featured a performance by ten 4th year musical acting students from the studio class taught by Petr Štěpán, a member of Brno City Theatre. They presented the project Kinovály, a series of excerpts from international and Czech musicals. They have had success with the show on the domestic stage operated by the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts at the Orlí Street Theatre. They normally perform with six musicians only but at the Music Theatre they were supported by the 30-member theatre orchestra. (…) The second part of the festive evening was introduced by the Rector of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts, Ivo Medek. Famous musical compositions from West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Flashdance and Pope Joan were performed by (mainly) domestic actors and singers and (of course) graduates from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts – Dušan Vitázek, Jana Musilová, Petr Gazdík, Jiří Mach, Tomáš Sagher and also Hana Holišová, who receives a lot of media coverage. The theatre orchestra was conducted by Dan Kalousek. (…)
