a crazy comedy for viewers of any blood group, Czech premiere
American theatre director and screenwriter Gordon Greenberg and actor, composer and lyricist Steve Rosen presented an off-Broadway crazy comedy parodying the famous horror story about Count Dracula in 2023. The renowned team of authors takes advantage of their extensive experience on both the American and London stages in their collaboration. According to the journalists, they “replace horror with humour” in this crazy version of Bram Stoker’s famous vampire novel, thereby creating “a non-stop party during which the audience won’t stop laughing”.
Humble English estate agent Jonathan Harker embarks on a perilous journey in the treacherous mountains of Transylvania to meet a new and mysterious client, who also happens to be the most terrifying and savage monster the world has ever known. Count Dracula, what’s more, falls in love with Jonathan’s fiancée Lucy and sets off for London to win her over for himself. The plot thickens when the famous vampire hunter Jean Van Helsing arrives on the scene... Dracula eventually takes possession of Lucy’s sister Mina and the initially inconspicuous Jonathan must become a hero who saves everyone in the end...
The famous story of the bloodthirsty monster is, however, told at breakneck pace and with incredibly witty hyperbole, lightness of touch, irony and humour. All the characters in the story are played by just five actors who, with the help of minimal external effects, and with even greater emphasis on precise comic interplay and an acting balancing act, do not let the audience draw breathe and pile one joke on top of another. Wordplay, physical acting verging on slapstick, disguises and a high-spirited take on a famous tale tell the vampire story in a captivating manner that the audience is bound to love.
